\"\"Saul<\/span> Junction Boat Owners Club Ltd lease the Stroudwater Navigation towpath side moorings <\/span>from the Canal & River Trust.
\n<\/span><\/span>The leased area is the strip of land bordered by the canal piling and the line of eighty-one, numbered mooring posts between the Junction Bridge Keepers’ Office and Walk Bridge.
\n<\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>moorings<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>towpath is a <\/span>Permissive Path<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/span>It is not a ‘Public Right of Way’<\/strong>.
\nThe <\/span>Canal & River Trust <\/span>permit<\/strong> <\/span>public use of the towpath. The Canal & River Trust may impose conditions on its use, as permissive paths are not public rights of way.\u00a0 This can include restrictions on when and how the public can use the path (e.g.,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>walkers are<\/span> allowed<\/b>, but not <\/span>cyclists or horse-riders<\/strong>).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mooring the boats<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\"\"
\nSJBOC boats are moored to rings on steel posts.
\nEach mooring post is numbered.
\nMooring Post No. 1 is situated outside the Junction Bridge Keepers’ Office.
\n<\/span>Mooring Post No. 81 is at Walk Bridge, the terminus point of the SJBOC stretch.
\n<\/span>Moorers are requested to secure <\/span>fenders<\/span> to their boats or mooring posts.
\nNeither mooring ropes nor fenders are to be attached to the timber waling beam atop the steel piling panels.
\n<\/span>There are three water points along the moorings.<\/span><\/div>\n
Midway – <\/span><\/strong>No Mooring
\n<\/span><\/strong>Saul Marina lies opposite the SJBOC moorings. \"\"<\/strong>
\nBoats moving to and from Saul Marina are assisted by a short ‘no mooring’ stretch between the SJBOC boats. <\/span>This space also creates a ‘winding hole’ for SJBOC vessels.
\n<\/span>The River Frome feeds the Stroudwater Navigation. Consequently, a strong current always flows to<\/strong><\/span>wards the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal.\u00a0 Boaters<\/strong>\u00a0leaving SJBOC Berths and<\/strong><\/em> Marina Moorings are t<\/strong><\/span>herefore <\/strong>asked to contact the Bridge Keeper before<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/span>leaving their moorings.

Walk Bridge – Terminus of SJBOC Moorings<\/span>\"\"<\/strong>
\n<\/span>When the Stroudwater Navigation was opened in 1779, the bridge was a regular arched structure taking a lane through a local estate. The steep approaches to that bridge created difficulties for horse-drawn loads. In 1855, the structure was rebuilt as an iron & timber swing bridge. Following the canal’s closure in 1945, the swing bridge deteriorated and became unsafe. Safety was re-established by a level, fixed, iron & concrete structure with a 7.5-tonne weight limit.
\nPlans and funding now exist for the construction of a Lift Bridge in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>Solar-powered lights illuminate the moorings<\/span>.<\/span>
\nThe installation was fitted by Saul Junction Boat Owners Club members.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Association of Waterways Cruising Clubs<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\"\"
\nSJBOC is a member of the Association of Waterways Cruising Clubs. (AWCC)
\n<\/span>The Association supports the interests of <\/span>boaters <\/span>and their clubs at a local and national level.
\n<\/span>AWCC offers reciprocal arrangements between other member clubs, including <\/span>emergency<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>assistance<\/span>\u00a0and access to temporary moorings for overnight or longer stays.
\n<\/span><\/span>There are eighty-six affiliated AWCC clubs across the UK.
